6.2 Environmental Objectives and Planning to Achieves Them

6.2.1 Environmental Objectives

The organisation shall establish documented objectives at relevant function and levels within the organisation. It shall also consider its;
  1.  Legal requirements
  2.  Significant aspects
  3.  Technological options 
  4.  Financial, operational and business requirements
  5.  Views of interested parties
Objectives shall be consistent with the environmental policy.

7. RESOURCE

7.1 Resource

Organization must determine and provide the resources needed for the establishment, implementation, maintenance and continual improvement of the environmental management- covering all aspects of people and infrastructure; 
  •  Human resources (people)
  •  Specialised skills 
  •  Technology 
  •  Financial resources

7.2 Competence

Most accidents and pollution incidents are caused by staff and contractors unaware of correct procedures.
Training help to encourage participation in the environmental improvement planning.                     The organisation shall ensure that personnel performing tasks that have potential to cause significant environmental impact shall be competent on the basis of appropriate education, training or experience
  • Identify training needs associated with aspects and EMS.
  • Retain associated documented information (records)
  • Establish documented information (procedures) for training.

7.3 Awareness

Establish, implement and maintain documented information (procedure) to ensure all people are aware of
  • Importance of conformity with the policy and EMS Significant environmental impacts 
  • Roles and responsibilities in achieving conformance
  • Consequences of departure from specified procedures
 Retain associated documented information (records)

7.4 Communication

7.4.1 General
Communication is vital to effective management. It allows people to understand the workings of the EMS and how its being implemented. It is also vital that procedures are in place to communicate with stakeholders (especially regulators and customers) and other interested parties.
Top management need to ensure that mechanisms are in place to facilitate this. It should be recognized that communication is two-way and need to cover what is required and what was achieved
7.4.2 Internal Communication
With regards to its environmental aspects and EMS, the organisation shall establish, implement and maintain a procedure for;
⇒ internal communication among the various levels and functions of the organisation.
⇒ procedure for communication from interested parties to
  •  Receive
  •  Document
  •  Respond
7.4.3 External Communication
Consider external communication on significant aspects and establish and implement a method

8. OPERATIONAL

8.1 Operational Planning & Control

The purpose of operational planning and control is to ensure that processes are in place to meet the environmental management system requirements and to implement actions identified in 6.1 and 6.2. For operations and activities with significant impacts it is vital that they are controlled.

8.2  Emergency Preparedness and Response

Despite best efforts, the possibility of accidents and other emergency situations still exits. Effective planning can reduce injuries, protect employees and neighbours, reduce asset losses and minimise production downtime.

An effective emergency preparedness and response program should include provisions for:
  • preventing incidents
  • plans / procedures for responding to incidents;
  • periodic testing of emergency plans / procedures; and,
  • Mitigating impacts associated with these incidents
  • Review emergency response performance after an incident has occurred 
The organisation shall establish, implement and maintain a procedure to identify potential for accidents and emergency situations that can have impact on the environment. It shall
  • Respond to accidents and emergency situations 
  • Prevent and mitigate the impacts
  • Review and revise procedures, particularly after occurrence
  • Periodically test such procedures
